Comp Plan TopicSummary Format <br />Example <br />HOUSING (HS) <br />(general summary) <br />Louisville is striving to achieve a balance that embraces its commitment to being a small town, while <br />maintaining a stableeconomy and providing for variety in the social, recreational andcultural services desired <br />by its residents. The housing policiesare intended to ensure that future residential construction: <br />Support vibrant retail and commercial centers that serve local residents, <br />Encourage use of alternative modes of transportation, <br />Address defined gaps in the housing market that exist today and into the future, and <br />Maintain and reinforce the important relationships between viable and safe neighborhoods and the <br />schoolfacilities that support those neighborhoods. <br />Principle HS-1. <br />(goal) <br />The character and identity of existingresidential neighborhoods should be maintained. <br />Policy HS-1.1:(required to achieve goal) <br />The neighborhood is the basic planning unit.The neighborhood, <br />whether it is residential orindustrial/commercial, should include that mix of land useswhich best serves those <br />residents and/or employees. <br />Policy HS-1.2: <br />The City should pursue strategies that resultin appropriately located mixed-use and mixed- <br />incomedevelopments, including designating developable land formixed-use development. <br />Policy HS-1.3: <br />The City should establish priorities forpreserving existing residential structures of historic <br />value. <br />Principle HS-2. <br />The City should support housingdevelopment and redevelopment strategies that promote <br />well-designed, compatible and high quality residential areasthat have a mix of unit types and pricing to meet <br />thechanging economic, social and multi-generational needs ofthose who would like to reside in the <br />community. <br />Policy HS-2.1 <br />: The City should encourage residentialdevelopment that supports the spectrum of housing <br />needs inthe community, including housing for seniors, empty-nesters,disabled, first time homebuyers and <br />entry-level to mid-levelhomebuyers by ensuring that a variety of housing types,prices and styles are created <br />and maintained in thecommunity. <br />
