•
•
•
also noted the sorry state of the Dyer Rd. extension and the broken glass and broken
fence and asked if the road could be closed to unauthorized access.
Chris Morrison, 4100 Aurora, Boulder — Mr. Morrison commented that Boulder residents
often refer to open space users "loving it to death." He encouraged Louisville against
closing off so much access to open space that it forces users into Boulder's system,
adding that some trail closures on the Mesa are probably necessary, but to make sure any
closures are necessary and appropriate. He also mentioned that the Boulder Off Road
Alliance has many tools available that could be used for any trail construction.
Melanie Muckle, 1101 Lincoln, Louisville — Ms. Muckle agreed with Mr. Gee and
disagreed with Mr. Jansen. Ms. Muckle noted that Mr. Buckner's interest in plant
ecology does not disqualify him from making recommendations re: the status of open
space parcels. She noted that very few remnants (such as in the northwest corner of the
Mesa) exist and we need to protect those that do. She also said that just because these
remnants are small doesn't mean the can be ignored and that while trails are desirable,
preservation is important because once the native plants are gone, they are very difficult
to reestablish especially if the seed stock is gone.
Ellen Lutz, W. Pine Ct., Louisville — Ms. Lutz commented that there is significant after
hours activity and car traffic behind the Ohmeda facility and considers this traffic and the
resulting trash and disturbance more important than the trail considerations.
Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce, Louisville — Ms. Morgan asked the LOSCAB about the
feasibility of a southern loop and asked Ms. Lair her opinion of Option 1. Ms. Lair noted
that she is not in favor of a southern loop, but, rather, advocates using what we've got.
As for Option 1, Ms. Lair said that she'd seen no native plants in the northwest corner
except horsehair.
Bill Mertens, Eldorado — Mr. Mertens asked about the impact that neighboring houses
have an the trail system. He also noted that he agreed with Ms. Morgan re: the
desirability of a perimeter trail.that protects the "middle."
Annelise Cummings, 795 W. Pinion — Agrees with Mr. Mertens on the trail layout and
the relatively poor quality of the existing signs makes it difficult to know what is on vs.
off leash and what is allowable vis a vis trail use. Ms. Cummings would like to see easily
identified and designated trails, not a network of social trails.
Comments from the board:
Heidi Ochis — Ms. Ochis noted that Mr. Jansen was incorrect in his statements re: the
LOSCAB's position on dog parks, noting that the Board had not recommending
removing or closing any dog parks, nor had the Board ever recommended no dog parks
on open space.
