She voiced concern about the number of
Russian Olives located on ditch banks.
Board Agenda
ESCO report will be moved to the December meeting:
Fragmentation. Fragmentation maps were provided by Heidi Ochis. Buffers of 100 & 300 feet off roads
and trails were mapped. How to rank the fragmentation was discussed. It was decided that ranking by
"eye" would be the most intuitive way.
The fragmentation maps need to be re -done using updated open space and trail information. Before and
after acreage calculations will also be provided. Brad Chromowski will provide Heidi Ochis with the new
data.
After the new maps are generated, a special meeting will be held to rank the open space fragmentation.
Native Plants. Matt Jones asked if the native plants on the west.side of McCaslin could be transplanted.
Brad Chromowski said he would look into transplant techniques. He also noted that the land on the west
side of McCaslin was private property so the City would have to get permission.
Matt Jones has refined the native plant list; adapted from the Colorado Native Plant Society list. He will
bring the new list and new language to the next meeting.
Dave Sexton noted that the City could take the revegetation plant list and adopt them to the native plant
list.
Matt Jones thought that would be fine as long as there is was an addition to the language that states;
replanting will reflect the historic plant communities as closely as possible.
Brad Chromowski asked what should be done with non native plants such as Russian Olives?
Bob Muckle agreed that tree removal should be addressed. He commented, however, that weed control
would be a better use of the limited resources of the City.
Public Comment
Caryl Shields announced the Colorado Section Society for Range Management & Colorado Seed Growers
and Seed Industry Associations joint annual Fall meeting on Nov. 29th - Dec. 1. Thursday, Nov. 30 there
is a seminar on "Importance of Native and Invasive. Species in Land Management ".
Bev Baker suggested an addition to the Native Plant List: Plants not to plant; a list of noxious plants. She
also suggested purchasing certified seed in order to guarantee the exclusion of weeds.
Matters from Staff
Prairie dogs. Steve Baysinger stated that no agreements have made thus far with jointly owned City and
County properties, with respect to prairie dog relocation sites / removal. The County is moving prairie
dogs from the Lastoka property to a site in Superior, which has the least amount of conflict. He said he is
still tracking down the lease information on Louisville and jointly owned open space properties.
