•
Horticultural It Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
November 3, 2005
The minutes from the regular meeting held on March 2, 2006 were approved as
written.
IV. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
No public present.
V. Arboretum
Theresa Rounds and Chris Lichty have been working on cleanup and weeding of
the xeric garden, and all plants are alive and seem to be thriving. Two volunteers
from the Master Gardener program have offered to help with weeding, and
Theresa and Chris have worked with them on plant identification and procedures.
Theresa will contact Kathy Kron regarding signage and lighting. It was
suggested that the Public Works dept should be contacted regarding signs to be
placed at Via Appia.
Re Arboretum fundraising, several suggestions were made:
• New grants should be pursued.
• Tim will approach Denver Brick Co. for donation of material for brick pavers.
• Fred spoke with Elle Cabbage, who is willing to talk to HFAB about
fundraising ideas. Mike will set up lunch meeting with her and Theresa.
• Jeff suggested a donation box could be utilized, potentially located in the Rec
Center, next to a framed copy of the Arboretum plans.
VI. Community Park Dedication /Arbor Day Celebration— Saturday, April
29, 9:00- 11:OOam
All members of HFAB are encouraged to attend. Chris Lichty would like
everyone to RSVP to him. He plans to display the Arboretum plans; in addition,
fact sheets about tree choices and proper planting and pruning techniques will be
available. Susan has offered to obtain fact sheets on the "x- rating" system of
classification for drought - tolerant plants. Theresa will ask Chris to try to obtain
seedling trees to give away on Arbor Day.
VII. Community Park Update
Per Dave Clabots, the City has reached an agreement with the landowners
involved in the Front St. access to the park. Because original ownership issues
were not clearly documented over 50 years ago, the City decided not to pursue
legal action due to the expense involved. After 10 years, the City will be allowed
a 15' easement for pedestrian access to the park.
