Louisville City Council Meeting
April 3, 2001
Page 5

Simmons stated that it will commence on June 1, 2001. There will be a three week
period where as many prairie dogs that can be trapped, will be dusted for fleas and
relocated to the Davidson Mesa. Manmade burrows will be dug on Davidson Mesa. The
Fire Station No. 2 colony of approximately 9 acres and the Archdiocese colony of 15
acres will be relocated to the Davidson Mesa 250 acres. Simmons noted that the
company that the City has contracted with has experience in relocation of prairie dog
families. After the three week period the remainder of the prairie dogs will be removed
from the site. The older male prairie dogs will be removed. The female and young
prairie dogs will be relocated.

Mayer stated that he had attended the Boulder County Open Space presentation on prairie
dog management and noted that what the City is doing is consistent with the way that
Boulder County manages prairie dogs.

Brown commented that he had heard concern for the native plants and grasses that may
exist on Davidson Mesa. He asked that Staff take that into consideration and discuss this
with the contractor.

Davidson asked if the relocation of the prairie dogs will be reviewed by the Open Space
Advisory Board.

Simmons stated that the Open Space Advisory Board has already reviewed this matter
and has recommended other open space areas jointly owned by the City and the County.
He noted that all sites suggested were explored by the Open Space Staff, and in their
opinion, Davidson Mesa is the best site.

MOTION: Sisk moved that Council approve Ordinance No. 1358, Series 2001, seconded
by Keany. Roll call vote was taken. The motion passed by a vote of 5-1. Davidson
voted no.

RESOLUTION NO. 22, SERIES 2001 - A RESOLUTION APPROVING A
PURCHASE CONTRACT TO BUY AND SELL REAL ESTATE TO BE
PURCHASED FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DENVER, LOCATED AT THE
SOUTHEAST CORNER OF MCCASLIN AND VIA APPIA

MOTION: Mayer moved that Council approve Resolution No. 22, Series 2001,
seconded by Brown. Roll call vote was taken. The motion passed by a vote of
5-1. Davidson voted no.
