LOUISVILLE HORTICULTURE FORESTRY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING
December 6, 2001
Members Present: Betty Solek, Susan Ariniello, Judith Turner, Nannette Edwards
Members Absent: Micheal Frontczak, Susan Spaulding, David Russell
City Liaisons Present: Dave Sexton, Keith Williams, Katie Beasley
Guest Present: Joe Vonbokem
A. General
1. The meeting was called to order and November minutes were approved.
2. Public Comment -Joe Vonbokern was here to observe as part of the Leaders Challenge
Program.
3. Open Space parcel designations were reviewed. The Open Space Board will have its
December meeting on the 17th, Betty will present the recommendations of this board with
a brief overview at that meeting so the Open Space Board can review the list and discuss
it during their January meeting. Keith said the final inventory may not be completed until
June. The list of parcels and designations were recorded by Dave — everyone accepted
and adopted these recommendations to be presented to the Open Space Board.
4. Native Plant List - Nannette has been on the board for 6 years and her term expires this
January, she will try to find lists that have been previously discussed that relate to the
Arboretum and City Master Beautification Plan and other projects. Keith Williams is
also looking for old documentation. The Colorado Native Plant Society List looks broad
enough to use, but may want to add an option to use new plants that have been discovered
and are available from nurseries, example prairie winecups.
5. Old business -The Arboretum is to be the main topic of the January meeting. Nannette
would like the board to consider the original ideas and concepts that were used in the
creation of the Arboretum (zones, high priority to the circle — classroom area, rose garden
etc.) while redoing the Master Plan for the Arboretum. The affect of the Police Station
and parking lot and possibly a skating park need to also be considered. The Arboretum
has $62,000 in the budget for next year.
6. New Business -elect a new recorder, update from Betty about meeting with Open Space
Board, discuss native plant list, review goals, start Arbor -Earth Day discussions.
7. The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the Rec. Center.
