Members Present:
Members Absent:
City Liaisons Present:
LOUISVILLE TREE BOARD
MINUTES OF BORAD MEETING
September 8, 1999
Nanette Edwards, Susan Spaulding, Jerry. Warren
Howard Teague, Joe Donnegan, Bev Beaufait,
Steve Baysinger and Brad Chronowski
A. General
1. Meeting was called to order. Steve Baysinger served as facilitator in Howard's
absence, and Jerry Warren served as recorder in Joe Donnegan's absence.:
Reading of June board minutes was deferred until next meeting as we had no
copies to review at the meeting.
2. Steve discussed Gateway/Lake Park bid results. All bids were over budget. City
Council had given authority to reject all bids. Steve and Brad to meet next week
with contractors to negotiate a result that will meet our budget, needs, and
standards. Plans are to defer landscape portion of Phase I and some of the plant
material for Lake Park.
3. Budget 2000:
a. Tree Inventory: A tree inventory is in the budget. This should describe
what are favorable tree species and favorable conditions for each.
b. City Forester: Have support from City Council on this and are working on
job description. Will work on assessment process when we accept
applications, and Tree Board is invited to participate in selection.
c. Beautification @ $275,000: Next priority is at South Boulder Road and
Main Street. We should have money left over as this is much smaller area.
Possibly we can use that to complete the South Boulder Road and
McCaslin project. We plan to work with the Downtown Business
Association to tie in this project with their concerns /needs.
4. Arboretum: Budgeting $60 -62K. We planted 84 trees in Arboretum this summer.
Brad handed out a list of newly planted trees, and a map showing what zones they
were in.
a. Removal of dead trees and prairie dog update: Rob Teetzel will be
replacing dead trees in the Arboretum and labeling, hopefully to include
information as to why they didn't survive.
b. Signage — Crab Trees — Brad said a Dr. Klett :was going to identify the
trees.
c. Parking Lot — Working on getting approval from Planning Commission.
Already have approval from Tree Board. Then we get estimates. Not sure
if we need bids on this. Hope to complete yet in 1999.
d. Entry way landscaping -is on hold.
5. Trail Beautification: 1999 ($30,000). Have a Fall project. In Meadows '
Subdivision. Trail through subdivision from Cherry Street down to Dillon Road.
Map presented. It will make the biggest impact for the $30 ;000 and still protect
views for homeowners.
6. Board. Renaming: Tabled until we have more members present for discussion.
