LOUISVILLE CITY FORESTER <br />Job Summary <br />DRAFT <br />Under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent performs administrative, supervisory <br />and skilled work in maintaining the city's tree inventory. Plan, organize, coordinate and <br />supervise activities associated with development, maintenance and care of trees on city <br />property. Coordinates and monitors contracted services, provides technical staff <br />assistance. <br />Essential Duties <br />• Develop and maintain tree inventory <br />• Plan, organize, coordinate, supervise and lead work relating to care and maintenance <br />of trees including planting, trimming, spraying and removal. <br />• Develop preventative maintenance plans for tree inventory <br />• Develop short and long term goals for the urban forestry program in conjunction with <br />the Tree Board. <br />• Serve as a staff representative to the Tree Board <br />• Plan, select and purchase trees according to design condition and need. <br />• Develop and maintain Louisville's Arboretum <br />• Conduct insect and disease analysis of trees <br />• Determine condition and value of city trees and make recommendations for <br />improvements inclusive of trimming, thinning and replanting. <br />• Assist in developing, managing and monitoring budget for forestry activities <br />Job Requirements — Training and Experience <br />Completion of bachelors degree in forestry, agronomy, horticulture or related field and <br />two years of experience or combination of experience and education. <br />Knowledge Skills and Abilities <br />• Knowledge of principles and practices of arboricultural, horticulture and landscape <br />architecture and ability to implement principles and practices <br />• Knowledge of insect problems, ability to detect, identify and implement proper <br />treatment <br />• Knowledge of and ability to develop and manage budgets <br />• Ability to manage contracted services <br />• Ability to manage and direct subordinate staff <br />• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to perform assigned work <br />• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and written <br />• Ability to operate equipment associated with urban forestry functions <br />
