Current Photo – Looking West from Main Street
A subcommittee was formedand conducted a site visit on October 10, 2012. The
subcommittee recommended that this request should be heard by the Commission.
ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY:
The existing structure is a one story national folk style single-family housebuilt in 1907.
The house is side-gabled, and appears to have been expanded to the west before
1948, and to the south after 1948. The siding and roofing are not original, though the
overall form is intact. Window openings on the north side appear to have retained their
size and location, but those on the east side have been shrunk. The windows are old
but not original. An awning has been added over the front door.
There is no historical information on the accessory structure.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION:
The househas retained its form and massing, but many details have been lost. The
siding and windows are not original, and not all window openings have been retained.
The house represents the typical miner’s cabin form. The social history includes
several coal miners.
Staff does not believe that the house wouldbe eligible for individual landmarking, and
therefore recommends the permit be released.
4
