Historical Commission <br />Minutes <br />September 19, 2012 <br />1. Approval of Deeds of Gifts from donors. The Commission voted to accept the <br />following donations: <br />a. From John Negri, now 92 and a former member of the Louisville hose cart <br />team in the 1930s, a handmade model of the hose cart. <br />b. From the City of Louisville,1940 drawing of the city water system and 1950s <br />drawing of the sanitation district. <br />c. From Richard Channel, two items relating to Louisville businesses: a small <br />bank created as advertising for Conoco and a tire tube patch kit with a Camel <br />cigarette logo. <br />d. From Shirley Bodhaine, a photo of the third grade class of 1941-42 and a 1938 <br />certificate showing that her father was elected as a town trustee. <br />e. From the Louisville Fire Department, a medal and a sticker commemorating <br />the Department’s 125th anniversary. <br />f. From Freeman Clyncke, scans of historic family photos. <br />g. From Jim Pelzer, a 1940s-era photograph of the Track Inn building. <br />h. From Ron and Arlene Leggett, Louisville Times issues from the 1950s and <br />1960s, copies of “The Lookout,” and Louisville High School football programs. <br />2. Advice sought on donations of other artifacts being offered. Carried over from <br />the last meeting, the Commission considered whether to accept the donation of two <br />Louisville street signs from the corner of Walnut and Lincoln. The donor remembers <br />them being there when she was married in the 1950s and asked to have them when <br />they were later replaced by the city’s updated signs. Dave Ferguson concurs that <br />they are at least this old and believes they may have been there in the 1930s. Bridget <br />brought the signs. Members of the Commission were unified in their enthusiasm for <br />accepting the signs into the collection and looks forward to accepting these signs <br />when Bridget presents the deed next month. <br />3. Questions regarding Museum Coordinator’s written report. There were no <br />questions, but an update was given on maintenance in the Tomeo House. <br />B. Discussion – Pioneer Award nomination process. The Commission will discuss <br />nominees in the Oct. meeting and determine the recipient at the following meeting. <br />C. Chairperson’s Report. Dan reported that the Brown Bag on polio presented by Bridget <br />was particularly interesting as was the input by residents Roger Del Forge, Ady Kupfner <br />and Bob Del Pizzo. The importance of city cleanliness in defeating polio was also <br />interesting. The next Brown Bag will be in Dec. and will be based on the first English <br />settlers. Anne Robinson’s walking tour drew 25 participants. Diane Marino will lead the <br />last walking tour of the season on Oct. 6. <br />1.Reminder – Study Session with City Council – Oct. 23, 2012. Planning meeting for <br />th <br />. <br />the Study Session is October 9 <br />2.Possible reschedule of November Commission meeting (currently falls on <br />Wednesday, November 21, the night before Thanksgiving). The Commission will <br />look into moving the meeting to Dec. 5 and will decide this in October. <br />E. Commission comments & discussion items for next meeting: <br /> The Commission will discuss a letter to the Planning Department at the next meeting. <br /> F.
