Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes —DRAFT
NOVEMBER 8, 2012
for the program were very low. The program plans to use the money left to carry over
for next year, with approval Superior and Lafayette, which will be back for the 2013
program.
C. Programming and Statistics
Beth noted the following:
■ There were higher than expected increases in circulation and the number of
new registrations likely due to the closure of the Lafayette Library for a few
weeks. Some of these new patrons have said they will remain with Louisville.
■ Children's programming is seeing strong increases, some of which is due to now
including parents/caregivers along with children for children's program
attendance.
• In response to the Jessica Ridgeway tragedy, the Library offered a child safety
story time and partnered with the Louisville Police Department for a child
safety program including fingerprinting kits.
• CU students prepared and presented The Magic Tree House series of science
programs based on the popular children's books by Mary Pope Osborne. There
was limited registration available and there were waiting lists.
■ The weekly program aimed at older kids, `Tween Tuesday', is undergoing some
format changes to increase awareness and attendance.
• The Library will be working with Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) to
determine if the Summer Reading Program has benefit with respect to
maintaining reading levels over the summer break. The Lafayette library will
also participate and this evaluation tool should be in place for 2013.
• At the last meeting of the statewide consortium of Prospector libraries, the
Marmot network of 21 libraries joined. This means that Prospector now has an
additional one million items, bringing the total to 29 million. Of these, 64`0 are
unique items (only held by one library).
• In 2011, 29 million items were requested through Prospector statewide
• Louisville lends and borrows at about the same level
• After dropping out a couple of years ago due to budget constraints,
Denver Public Library (DPL) will be rejoining in 2013. DPL has approx.
one million items.
D. Upcoming Events
Along with the selection of regular programs, Beth noted the music programs on the
November and December calendars, as well as the Pathways to Parenting Success
series, a Museum Brown Bag discussion, and the annual holiday open house.
