Statement of significance: This house is associated with the historic development of Louisville as one of the <br />early homes in Louisville’s first residential subdivision, Jefferson Place. It is significant for its association with <br />locally prominent families, the Taylors and Eberharters. Charles Taylor was mayor of Louisville, a top foreman <br />for several local coal mines, and a well-known local musician. Fred Eberharter was a member of the locally <br />prominent family that owned the Eberharter Store, where Fred worked. <br />43. Assessment of historic physical integrity related to significance: The property has integrity of location and <br />association. It lacks integrity of setting due to large additions and a large non-historic garage that alter the size <br />and openness of the yard. The purpose of the survey is to determine if there is National Register <br />district potential. Jefferson Place Subdivision has potential to be listed as a National Register district for its <br />significance under Criterion C in the area of community planning and development, as Louisville’s first platted <br />residential subdivision. Jefferson Place is significant under Criterion A in the area of Ethnic Heritage, <br />European, for its association with European immigrants, particularly Italians, who first lived here and whose <br />descendants continued to live here for over fifty years. Jefferson Place is significant under Criterion A in the <br />area of Social History for its association with the coal miners and their families who lived here, as well as the <br />labor issues that affected their lifestyles.
