Historical Commission <br />Minutes <br />October 17, 2012 <br />4. Museum Open House during Parade of Lights - Commission signups to assist <br />with visitors at the Museum (Friday, Dec. 7th, 6:00-8:00 PM). Anne Robinson, <br />Dave Ferguson, Pat Seader, and Jennifer Strand signed up to assist with visitors <br />to the Museum during the Parade of Lights. <br />th <br />5. Open Government Training scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, 6:30-8:30 PM <br />nd <br />and Friday, November 2, 8:30-10:30 AM, Council Chambers. Members who <br />need to update their open government training this year have two opportunities to <br />do so. <br />6. Helburg Memorial. Jennifer and Bridget reported on the first meeting of a small <br />group assembled by Robert Sampson to create a public memorial to Assistant <br />Marshal Victor Helburg who was killed while performing his job in 1915. The goal <br />th <br /> anniversary of the event. The <br />is to complete the memorial by 2015, the 100 <br />three granddaughters of Victor Helburg are part of the committee and strong <br />supporters of the initiative. First choice for the location of the memorial is next to <br />the police department and court house on Via Appia. <br />C. 2013 Pioneer Award - Discussion of nominations. The Commission discussed Dave <br />Ferguson’s suggested nominee. The final decision will take place in the next <br />meeting. <br />Bridget Bacon reported that she is working towards putting short biographies of past <br />Pioneer Award recipients on the Museum website in order to bring more attention and <br />recognition to them. <br />D. Chairperson’s Report <br />1. Approval of letter from Commission to Planning Department. Dan Mellish <br />reported that he and Lynn Koglin met with the Louisville Planning Department <br />about the heritage part of the City plan and how the expression of the need for a <br />new building to house and safeguard the City’s Museum collection would best fit <br />in. Based on advice received, Dan drafted a letter to the Planning Department on <br />behalf of the Commission, which he read to the members. The Commission <br />discussed some minor changes and then approved the letter. Dan will complete <br />the letter and send it to the Planning Department. <br />2. Study Session with City Council – Oct. 23, 2012 <br />a. Discussion – Goals to present to City Council. The Commission <br />discussed and agreed upon the goals to be presented to the City Council <br />at the Study Session. Dan will deliver the presentation. <br />3. Reschedule of November Commission meeting. The next regularly scheduled <br />Commission meeting falls on the day before Thanksgiving. The Commission <br />. <br />approved rescheduling the next meeting for December 5 <br />E. Commission comments & discussion items for next meeting. None. <br />F. Close Advisory Board Meeting. <br />VII. Meeting as Fundraising Board for the Historical Museum <br />A. Presentation/Approval of Treasurer’s Report.
