Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
January 14, 2013
Robinson stated it would need to be done through a PUD, which means they would
need to do more than 6 units.
Jean Morgan asked if the City would then own the cabins.
Stewart stated he would not imagine the City owning the cabins. They would
encourage the owner to preserve the cabins.
Morgan asked what the exact bonus is if the property owner could already build 8 units.
She wondered what the incentive would be to keep them.
Robinson stated the first step is to get in contact with the owner.
La Grave stated this is very speculative at this point. He added the best sign of these
cabins is they are still there, so the owner must see some value in them. He stated
these cabins could be a great asset to a pioneer park, should the City consider this.
Stewartvolunteered to work with Morgan and staff on a follow up letter to the owner.
Discussion – Commercial incentives workshop
Stewart stated he and Lewis were slated to work on this. He stated he hadn’t had a
chance to meet with Lewis but he is working on a couple of pro-formas of what a
Commercial Incentive could look like.
Committee Reports – Outreach Committee
La Grave stated he did not get a chance to get anything to staff for the packet. He is
working on a budget on how to use the budgeted money most efficiently. He stated we
need to be more active on how we approach outreach.
Stewart stated he believes the most successful preservation efforts are best done
through outreach. He believes our budget can be used very wisely to create a great
outreach program.
Koertje stated the best outreach we did was when we created the workshops.
The HPC then discussed about the possibility of them having their own website, set
apart from the City website.
Robison stated he would check with the City’s Public Relations manager.
Election of Officers
Robinson gave background on what the elections are and what positions the HPC
elects.
Stewart asked if there were term limits.
Robinson stated no.
