<br />ORDINANCE NO. 1143 <br />SERIES 1994 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 6 OF THE LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE CONCERNING THE REGULATION OF PIT BULLS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, C.R.S. S31-15-40I(I) (m) authorizes the City to <br />prohibit, regulate and control the keeping of animals within the <br />City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pits bulls are powerful animals which often give no <br />warning prior to attack and such attacks by pit bulls are often <br />more severe and more frequent than attacks by other breeds of dogs <br />and are likely to result in serious bodily injury or death; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the regulation <br />and prohibition of pit bulls within the City is desirable; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the adoption of this ordinance is necessary for the <br />protection of the public health, safety and welfare. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br /> <br />Section 1. Section 6.02.010 of Title 6 of the Louisville <br />Municipal Code is hereby amended by the addition of new subsections <br />I, J and K to read as follows: <br /> <br />6.02.010 Definitions. <br /> <br />I. Pit Bull. Any dog that is an American Pit Bull <br />Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, <br />Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or any dog displaying <br />the majority of physical traits of anyone (1) or <br />more of the above breeds, or any dog exhibiting <br />those distinguishing characteristics which <br />substantially conform to the standards established <br />by the American Kennel Club (A.K.C.) or United <br />Kennel Club (U.K.C.) for any of the above breeds. <br />The A.K.C. and U.K.C. standards for the above <br />breeds shall be. on file at the Louisville <br />Department of Public Safety. <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />J. Secure enclosure. An enclosure possessing secure <br />sides, possessing a top and a bottom permanently <br />attached to the sides, or sides embedded into the <br />ground not less than one (1) foot deep, except for <br />a door for removal of the animal.
