Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
September 6, 2007
Using the cities website could also be an outreach tool. Fred asked what
private contractors follow to apply pesticides in the city. Chris believes
that the board's focus should be public education and brought up
concerns about the board affecting policy. He wants the board to be
aware of the ramifications of the decisions they make. Theresa will take
all recommendations and compile a list for members to evaluate. She
would like lists within one week.

VII. Arboretum

1. Discuss Pergola design/construction: Chris will email pictures of
plans and get input from the board.

2. Update on status of 501 c3: Matt thinks that the Arboretum Board
of Directors should not be limited to HFAB members. He thinks
that citizens should be allowed to serve on the board as well.
Fred thinks that we should get the board established and then
amend the bylaws. Mike thinks that we should be able to be
flexible. Theresa well call Scott to get an update because we
have money and need to set up an account.

3. Xeric Garden maintenance: Theresa re-stated that any demo
garden needs city staff to maintain it properly. Tim suggested
solarization to kill the existing weeds. Theresa thinks that the
berms should be removed to efficiently irrigate. Chris thinks that
we need fewer plants to help manage the plots and improve
identification. Theresa believes that until we establish
stewardship, we should not do anything. Theresa will call Scott
about getting city staff to manage the beds.

4. Continued discussion on engraved bricks for Arboretum (Matt):
The board agrees that laying the path in bricks and pulling them out
to be engraved as donations are made is the best plan.

VIII. Ongoing development of HFAB's section on the City's website: Nothing
new to report.

IX. Discussion concerning future presentations/seminars at the Library
Related to horticulture: Nothing new to report.

XI. Adjourn: Jeff moved to adjourn at 8: 15 with Fred seconding.
