Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
DATE
place regarding how to draft an IPM plan. Tim said that Boulder had an IPM
coordinator and Fred believed that could be a good idea. Chris believes that
hiring someone outside the city could be a good idea. Fred suggested adding
that idea to our resolution. Theresa said that the documents she read from the
EPA stressed the importance of hiring local experts that maybe already paid for,
such as Extension Agents. Fred had a suggestion regarding the wording,
changing the part of "pesticide resolution" to implementation of IPM program".
Tim speculated that IPM in the city will fail unless it completely eliminates the use
of toxic substances. Ellen reminded us that our previous plan was to write a draft
and send it to Scott before we put together a packet to go to Council. Theresa
and Ellen will compile the changes and contact the board to get a draft to Scott
and Council. In addition to adding the suggestion of an outside IPM coordinator,
the board would like contractors to give annual reports.

VII. Arboretum

. Review Pergola design/construction drawings from
draftsperson. - There was a discussion about the roof design with
some concern that it would be a problem with winds from the north
and misleads visitors as to where the entrance is.

. Update on status of 501 @ (3). - See discussion in Public
Comments.

. Demo garden maintenance - Update from Theresa - Demo
garden is weeded. Theresa removed 29 33 gallon garbage bags of
weeds. She proposed that Master Gardener Students dig that
plants that self-seeded to sell at their plant sale.

. Continued discussion on engraved bricks for Arboretum
(Matt). - Jeff suggested that HFAB buy the first brick in the new
path.

VIII. Ongoing development of HFAB's section on City's website. - Chris
thinks that we should get a volunteer workforce page to help coordinate volunteer
efforts.

IX. Discussion concerning future presentations/seminars at the Library
related to horticulture and recommended book list for library. - Nothing
new to report.

Discussion Items for Next Meeting

Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
