Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />February 4, 2013 <br />Page 2of 3 <br />PRESENTATION OF DOWNTOWN PATIOS– <br />Diana Trettin gave an update on the progress of the <br />downtown patios. The design was sent to DBA, City and Staff for comments and then the design option <br />was agreed upon.The agreed upon design option is;an additional two feet deep 6x8 to 8x12has been <br />added,additionis to extend to the bump out of the curb,BrazilianHarwood floors, steel forthe posts <br />and railings and Epaiwood for the caps and the handrails. There will also be hanging baskets. The <br />whole patiois modular. <br />There was further discussion over theconcern about whether the flower pots would be hanging or <br />permanent and whether the City is willing to take the railings off for the Tasteof Louisville? City Staff <br />will look at what this requires.Emily Jasiak was concerned in regards to the issue of safety. Diana <br />calmed this concern with the assurance that there are going to be removable bollards. The patios are not <br />to exceed $200,000. Dalton complimented that theCity hadmade a lot of progress in just a few months. <br />The plan goes to council tomorrow for approval and should approval occur, the Cityshould have the <br />patios by May. <br />Concern was discussed aboutpower supplyand water for the flowers. Diana highlighted the city will <br />not be able to water the flowers this year. There are two taps near the patios and it was suggested that <br />businesses could paytheir share?Michael Menaker suggested conduit in the rail and Diana verified that <br />there will be. <br />Currently, drip irrigation is being looked into and the patio railings will be constructed for drip. <br />MalcolmFleming broughtup that construction depends on timing ofthe street surfacing…..this could <br />potentiallybe a lot of work.Fleming reminded people that patios are being made to last for a long <br />period of time. Malcolm discussed the City’s financial commitment and his hope that the DBA could <br />pay for water. The DBA statedthey were willing to pay for water at teenager rates. <br />CITY COUNCIL GOALS/2014 BUDGET– <br />Malcolm Fleming spoke about Council’s 2014 Budget. <br />This year The City will askCouncil itsgoals for the2014 budget.The City will need any Commission <br />th <br />or Boardgoals by March 19and will finalize in Junewhen City Council meetsfor discussions on the <br />Capital Budget.Further operating budget issues will be discussed by City Council inOctober. <br />STREET SIGNS- <br />Michael Menaker has concerns over the size and colors of the City’s street signs. <br />Michaelsuggests that we do a mock up (paper and foam) in color to make sure that the signsare what <br />we wantbefore construction. <br />POLES- <br />Downtown Business Association pointed out that light poles and banners are an issue.They <br />would like to see a walk-abilityplan on Main Street. A suggestion was for the City to use itsown poles <br />(purchase the street lights) and thenthe Citycould use them for all sorts of decoration. DBA pointed out <br />that they were very willing to help in the past andthatwe should add this to our 2014goals. <br />CONOCO/PHILLIPS PROPERTY- <br />One question that arose was if we could do anything to increase <br />exposure of the Conoco/Phillips property?Does Phillips 66we have a Brokerage team yet?No. <br />Michael Menaker brought up an article where Hickenlooper was talking to the President of SISCOand <br />the feedback was that SISCOliked Coloradoand wanted to expand here. <br /> <br />
