City Council
Study Session Summary
January 29, 2013
Page 3of 3
The Council discussed the possible projects that could be fundedwith new
bonding includingarecreation centerexpansion, an outdoor aquatics facility, golf
course improvements, and street reconstruction.
Mayor Muckle noted that quiet zones for the rail crossings should be added to
the list as well.
Council members noted that if bonding for new facilities other than wastewater is
what the Councildecides to do, they might look at creating a citizen task force to
give input on the idea and help advocate for its passageit to residents.
Discussion –Impacts of Special Events & 2013 SpecialEvents
Public Relations Manager Meredyth Muth reported on the increase in special
events in town and how it has affected both residents and other events. The
huge success of the Street Faire has created some issues with parking but is
considered a great event, additionally;the City is now home to multiple running
races and other events. With so many events, at some point residents may
decide the impact is not worth itand the Citywill have to reevaluate its
processes.
The City’s approval process for special events is fairly lenient, and this has
created a good home for many new events. There was no discussion of changing
the permitting process.
Specifically related tothe planning of the2013 Fall Festival Muth noted the
increased competition for vendors, decreased attendance, and a request to move
the event back to Memory Square Park.
Members of the Council suggested theyliked the idea of moving the Fall Festival
th
back to Memory Square Park and some asked if bringing back the July 4picnic
in the park could be an option.
Following the discussion Mayor Muckle noted that the City Manager could use
his discretion on how best to move forward with the 2013 Fall Festival.
Adjourn -The meeting adjourned at 9:15PM
Submitted by Meredyth Muth
February 19, 2013
