Open Space Advisory Board
Meeting Notes
March 13, 2013
Lafayette is proposing that the work be completed by the Boulder
County Youth Corps. The joint owners of the property will be meeting to
discuss the feasibility of this project.
The McCaslin & Washington Underpass project continues.
The Parks and Recreation Department is looking into trash and
o
recycling can options and reviewing plan drawings.
The Open Space Division has selected a contractor for weed control in
2013. The scope of work will include weed monitoring,
recommendations for control, and herbicide spraying on selected Open
Space properties throughout the Spring and Fall of 2013.
The Open Space Division is currently selecting the contractor for the
fence work at Harper Lake Open Space.
The Parks and Open Space Department is filling dog bags more often
with biodegradable bags.
12 people attended the Volunteer Raptor Monitoring Training session on
th
February 27.
VII. Board Updates
Linda shared an article from Dwell magazine (see pages 29-36 in the
March Board Packet) on the study and observations of short cuts and
social trail development. OSAB brainstormed ways to study and
document changes in social trails over time. Laura volunteered to help
take photo points of some key social trails in Louisville.
Parks and Recreation staff participated in a webinar training on
wayfinding. The Planning Department has $90,000 for a wayfinding
program focused on McCaslin Blvd. and will partner with the Parks &
Recreation Department in the fall to finalize a design standard.
VIII. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda –
Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce Street, Louisville. – Jean’s Question - Is
there a percentage of the tax that is set aside for land acquisition? The
information provided to the public about the Open Space tax
emphasized future land acquisition and Jean wants to be sure that the
City is prepared and well funded if land becomes available for purchase.
Jean also expressed concern that too much money is being spent on
park maintenance and operations.
4
