Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm by Cullen as Chair, Claudia <br />served as Secretary. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call: Members present (in bold): Cullen Choi, Mary Ann Heaney, Andy <br />Johnson, Claudia Lenz, Jim Bradford, Mark Persichetti, Ted Sontrop; Staff Liaison Dave <br />Szabados; City-Council Liaison Emily Jasiack <br /> <br />III. Approval of Current-Meeting’s Agenda: The agenda was approved with no changes. <br /> <br />IV. Approval of February Meeting Minutes: The minutes were approved with no <br />changes. <br /> <br />V. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda: None. <br /> <br />VI. Urban Chickens - (Mary Ann) (white paper attached) <br />Mary Ann presented a further draft of the White Paper Urban Agriculture – Backyard Hens. <br />Mary Ann wants to speak to someone at Boulder County before releasing the urban white <br />paper. <br /> <br />Meg Sandavol from the Urban Hen Coalition was present representing the group in support <br />of urban chickens in Louisville. Meg spoke highly of the benefits of chickens and of wanting <br />to be a good neighbor. She and others from the Urban Hen Coalition, plan on being present <br />at the City Council Study Session on July 9. The Hen Coalition welcomes feedback from <br />those in opposition to backyard hens. <br /> <br />After the through research by LSAB led by Mary Ann on urban chickens in the surrounding <br />areas and in view of the minimal problems experienced by municipalities who have <br />ordinances in place, allowing hens for several years, it is recommended by LSAB to the <br />Planning Department that Louisville allow citizens to raise backyard hens with the following <br />restrictions: <br /> <br /> an owner’s application or license and fee that covers administrative costs ($25 to <br />$30) <br /> a prohibition on roosters <br /> a prohibition on outdoor slaughtering <br /> a limit of the number of fowl to six maximum; three of any combination geese, <br />turkeys, or ducks plus the addition of a maximum of three hens; or six hens <br />maximum. <br /> chicken manure cannot go into Western Disposal compost, trash only <br /> a restriction of coops and runs to backyards
