City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 18, 2013 <br />Page 4 of 12 <br />IMPACT ON EDUCATION GRANT RECIPIENT PRESENTATION <br />Mayor Pro Tem Dalton requested a presentation from the grant recipient. <br />Fran Ryan, Impact on Education CEO, 728 Front Street, Louisville, CO, is the recipient <br />of a City of Louisville 2013 Grant. Ms. Ryan presented a brief overview of the non - profit <br />and how the grant has impacted the organization. Impact on Education is a charity, <br />which supports all Boulder Valley Schools, supports teachers and students who struggle <br />reading or are economically disadvantaged. She reported 350 backpacks of school <br />supplies were prepared for students at local schools, including Louisville Elementary <br />and Louisville Middle School. She noted many families also come to their office for <br />assistance. She thanked the City staff for assisting on fund raising events and noted <br />their meetings also bring a lot of people to the downtown restaurants. <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Council member Jasiak, disclosed she is a member of an organization called MOD <br />Moms North, which has assisted Impact on Education. Ms. Ryan thanked MOD Moms <br />North for their assistance in putting together the backpacks with school supplies. <br />ST. BENEDICT HEALTH GRANT RECIPIENT PRESENTATION <br />Mayor Pro Tem Dalton requested a presentation from the grant recipient. <br />Rev. Sally Bowersox, Executive Director of St. Benedict Health and Healing, a City of <br />Louisville 2013 Grant Recipient, presented a brief overview of the non - profit and how <br />the grant has impacted the organization. St. Benedict Health has been in business for <br />four years and provides free health care for Boulder County residents who cannot afford <br />it. They conduct ten clinics per month and partner with Sister Carmen to go to people <br />who are in need. She noted there are Boulder County residents who are in destitute <br />situations, are unemployed and cannot afford their prescriptions. They also partner with <br />the Mexican Counsel and the American Diabetes Association to provide chronic disease <br />management classes for asthma, diabetes, Parkinson, MS, high blood pressure and <br />other chronic diseases. The grant will provide continued chronic disease management <br />classes, specifically for diabetes. She noted there are people who are in need of health <br />care services in Louisville, Lafayette, and Erie. <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Council member Jasiak asked how people are informed about the services St. Benedict <br />provides. Rev. Bowersox stated they work with various human service agencies in <br />Boulder County and non - profit organizations to provide services to the needy. <br />BI- MONTHLY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REPORT <br />Mayor Pro Tem Dalton requested a staff presentation. <br />
