City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 7, 2007 <br />Page 3 of 14 <br />stated the City has resisted irnplementing sign stops at every intersection due to <br />concern of not knowing what the consequences would be. He noted some of the <br />more aggressive measures discussed are very costly. He stated at this point the <br />recommendation would be status quo. <br />Mayor Sisk stated Council has expressed a desire to have a stop sign at Dahlia <br />and Madison. He inquired why a stop sign could not be utilized on a trial basis. <br />He reported on intersections in other municipalities where stop signs have been <br />implemented as traffic calming measures. He noted there is a police presence <br />along Polk and Dahlia, but requested more pro-active measures be implemented. <br />Public Works Director Phare explained with stop sign applications there is a <br />reduction along the placement of the sign, but not along the entire corridor. <br />Council member Muckle commented on traffic calming measures he has <br />observed. He stated the no-;>olution option is not an option. <br />Council members acknowledged this roadway is very challenging. There was <br />Council support for placing a 3-way stop sign at the corner of Dahlia and <br />Madison on a trial basis. Mayor Sisk directed Staff to install a stop sign. <br />Council member Muckle requested a traffic counting device be placed at this <br />intersection to record the nunnber of cars traveling on Dahlia. <br />City Clerk Varra reported today, August 7, 2007 was the first day candidates who <br />wish to run for Mayor or City Council may pick up a petition packet. Three seats <br />are open for City Council, one in each ward. Petitions must be signed by 25 <br />registered voters from within the municipal ward. Mayoral candidates can collect <br />signatures from all three wards. Completed petitions must be returned on or <br />before 5:00 p.m., August 27, 2007. <br />Interim City Manager Balser reported the US 36 Corridor Environmental Impact <br />Statement Report was released in July. Copies are available in the City Clerk's <br />office, and at the Library. Public hearings are scheduled for 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM <br />for Wednesday, August 29, apt the Double Tree Hotel in Westminster; Thursday, <br />August 30 at the Broomfield Auditorium and Thursday, September 6 at the East <br />Boulder Community Center. ;She also reported that agenda items for the August <br />14 Study Session will include a meeting with Boulder County on Open Space, <br />Boulder County's transportation tax ballot issue and discussion on business <br />assistance policy incentives. <br />Mayor Sisk reported this wound be Heather Balser's last official City Council <br />meeting as Interim City Manager. He praised Balser for her service to the City of <br />Louisville. The Mayor and City Council presented Balser with a bouquet of <br />flowers in appreciation of her' dedicated service to the City. <br />
