City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 16, 2007 <br />Page 3 of 15 <br />Mayor Sisk stated the Counclil is pleased to conduct a City Council meeting at <br />Monarch High School and is committed to take government out to the public and <br />make it more exciting. He noted this is also an opportunity for Council to hear <br />from the City's youth. He addressed the recent newspaper articles on the <br />character of board members and asked the public to get beyond those issues. <br />He voiced his admiration for 1:he Council and the candidates running for Council. <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORT <br />City Manager Fleming reported on the following items: <br />• Staff met with representatives of the owners of the Sun Microsystems <br />property. <br />• He reported on his recent ICMA conference in Pittsburgh. <br />• He met with Fire Chief Parker and they discussed collaboration with other <br />agencies. They also discussed the redevelopment area and TIF <br />financing. <br />Don Atwood, 298 S. Taft Couirt, Louisville, CO thanked Council for passing <br />Resolution No. 55, Series 2007, which proclaims October as National Arts and <br />Humanities Month and October 25, 2007 as Arts and Humanities Day. <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br />DISCUSSION -- MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL ISSUES <br />Mayor Sisk encouraged the Monarch students to come forward with their <br />questions and comments. The students discussed the following issues with <br />Council. <br />• They like the Street Faire and other City sponsored events. <br />• They'd like library houirs after 8:00 p.m., and open on Sundays. <br />• They requested a teen center. <br />• They like the Community Park and the dog park. <br />• They asked what will happen to Memory Square swimming pool. <br />• They'd like more food options close to the school. <br />• A secondary road to Monarch <br />• They'd like a ski bus and a RTD bus route to Monarch. <br />• They like a carnival to come to town. <br />City Manager Fleming supported a ski bus and noted a High School in <br />Bellingham, Washington had a ski bus on Saturdays. He was willing to <br />collaborate with the School District. <br />Council member Marsella exiplained the next planned RTD route running through <br />
