COMMUNITY SERVICES <br /> RECREATION: <br /> Recreation participation increased, partially as a result of <br /> expanded national and local interest in fitness. <br /> •The aerobic classes expanded to the extent that the City <br /> entered into a lease arrangement for facilities in the Pine Street <br /> 1 _ . Plaza. Use of this storefront facility started in January 1986. <br /> • Other indoor programs showing significant increases <br /> were gymnastics and dance. <br /> •Outdoor programs also grew. For example, the youth <br /> soccer program increased from 16 to 24 teams. Additionally, <br /> girls softball reflected significant increased interests. <br /> •The annual Spring Dance Concert,including ballet,jazz <br /> and tap attracted over 300 people. <br /> •A biathlon,bike and run, had 700 people in attendance <br /> including participants.This program sponsored by Louisville <br /> Cyclery with City assistance was held during Arbor Week. <br /> Other divisions of the Community Services Department were <br /> also very active in 1986. <br /> LIBRARY: <br /> Overall circulation increased by 16 percent over 1985.The <br /> library offered 278 children's programs attended by 6,126 <br /> 0 young people and 15 adult programs. <br /> ne of the City Council's goals for the year was The Louisville Library Friends,a library support group was <br /> to explore the feasibility of developing a City recreation/com- created in 1986.
