2
MA YOR 9S
MESSA GE
TO: THE CITIZENS OF LOUISVILLE
March 20, 1983
My past year as Mayor of the City of With any situation in the past or future I may face,
Louisville has been a challenge and a pleasure, with there is always the reward of working with a
several issues having been resolved that have been community that is very special and unique across the
pending for quite some time and various items still in country. Thank you for all your help and support!
the proposal stage.
A few planning and zoning issues have been of a Sincerely, yy//
discussion controversial nature that c prompted group x4 1`
discussion and interaction, which can lead to the
strengthening and improvement of a project. The City
has been challenged with the cancellation of the Norbert A. Meier
Centennial Valley Mall and how that affects the Mayor
surrounding area and our Comprehensive Plan as a
whole. We have also had to confront a slow economy
and work lay-offs which were of great concern to the
city while we tightened our budget by a half million E.
dollars. Yg,
The pleasure has been derived by Louisville being ,
awarded "Tree City U.S.A." with our very ambitious ,
tree program. Park improvements are in progress,
with others on the drawing board for next year Our
cable television system is nearly installed, adding a new
source of entertainment and a means of obtaining
public access to city news and local programs in the
future.
Long-standing issues before the city have either been . ,..  ;
resolved or are in the process of being completed. The aFa
leachate problem at Marshall Landfill is heading in a ; ;
positive direction. One now has to stop at South 4z -`
Boulder Road and Main Street for the long-needed lt:$ `".-`,;• @m
traffic light. Our mail is now processed from a new
post office in our downtown area which will add a
boost to the L.D.C.'s (Louisville Development
Corporation)plans to strengthen our city's core.
In the coming year we have quite a job facing us
with major decisions and planning to be achieved in
the mall area. We have planned for some alley paving
and road reconstruction to be completed. In addition,
with our city's recreation programs nearly filled to
capacity, a real need has been demonstrated to
continue and maintain them at their current high
standard.
L
