9/11/13 Wednesday
My name is Vithal Patel and I live at 966 St. Andrews Lane in Louisville. .1
am here to talk about common sense approach instead ()frigid rules set by
park management or open space committee to maintain open space which
does not make sense. They have made rule to treat all the open space same
regardless of their location that they will allow them to grow as jungle to
preserve nature even though they know that dry grass is the main cause of
fires in this country.
We all need to learn from our past mistakes and take precautions if possible
that disaster does not get repeated. We all have heard about dry grass fires
all over USA, specially in Colorado and California.
Open space between fence of 964, 966 and 968 St. Andrews Zane and Dillon
road is not maintained at all. Louisville city maintained for few years,
planted trees. and mowed grass. When 1 bought house, 1 checked with city
and 1 was told that they will take care of open space. Since last 5 years, it has
been disaster. For short time, city snowed 10 feet from fence but they have
stopped doing that also. I have talked Louisville city fire department and
they agreed that it is dangerous and we are inviting fire if we do not clean.
They also told me that they do not have power to force Louisville city park
management to take care.
Recently 1 have been told by city that homeowners can mow 10 feet from
fence if they wish. 1 have cleared 10 feet of space for 966 St. Andrews lane
few days ago but that does not make my house fire safe as all other home
owners have not done their share. City can not force homeowners to spend
money to clean open space which belongs to city. In that case, we always
have to live with fear of fire.
City of Louisville Management has made decision that allow all open space
to grow as jungle to preserve nature. 1 do not agree with that decision
because if open space is close to houses, then it should be cleaned to make
all houses fire safe in city of Louisville, which is the best in the west
according Time Magazine. If I wanted to live in Forest, 1 would have bought
house in forest instead in Louisville.
6
