SUBJECT: LRC YEAR -IN- REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF FUTURE INITIATIVES
DATE: OCTOBER 22, 2013
Downtown Parking Solutions
Residents perceive a lack of public parking exists in the core downtown area. On- street
parking is frequently occupied and additional supply is needed to relieve parking
pressure on the surrounding neighborhoods. The LRC is willing to assist, where
appropriate, to increase parking availability in downtown.
Study the Impact of Projects on Existing Neighborhoods
Significant projects are being proposed or are being constructed which will have
impacts to existing neighborhoods. Small studies may be conducted to better
determine the impacts and identify improvements that can lessen or eliminate those
impacts.
Highway 42 Improvements
The City Council has approved the Highway 42 Corridor Plan, which includes significant
modifications to Highway 42, and significant funding will be required to achieve the
vision for the corridor. The LRC is committed to seeing these modifications
implemented and wants be an active participant in helping facilitate success.
Revitalization of Existing Buildings
Some buildings in downtown may be considered for revitalization. Depending upon the
age and condition of the building, it may be cost prohibitive for the project alone to do
what is needed to revitalize the building and property. The Commission is open to
partnering on projects that need infrastructure assistance to revitalize existing buildings.
Improvements to corridors within the URA
Traffic into and out of downtown is increasing. Residents and visitors are increasingly
walking or riding bikes into downtown. The Commission in interested in learning about
what types of changes can be made to the transportation infrastructure to reduce the
conflict between these modes and traditional vehicular traffic.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Louisville Revitalization Commission would like input from the City Council
regarding the future initiatives envisioned.
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
4
