8. From dusk until dawn, chickens shall be protected from predators <br />by being enclosed within a secured chicken coop. <br />9. The maximum chicken coop size shall be 120 square feet and <br />subject to the following requirements: <br />a. A minimum of four (4) square feet of space per chicken <br />shall be provided in both the coop and fenced run area. <br />b. The maximum height of a coop shall be no more than six <br />(6) feet at the highest point of the roof. <br />10.Outdoor slaughtering of birds is allowed, but shall be screened and <br />not visible to adjoining properties. <br />11. Chicken feed shall be stored in re- sealable, airtight, predator and <br />vermin -proof containers. <br />12.Odors associated with the chicken coop shall be contained within <br />the owner's property boundaries. <br />13. Owners shall be responsible for the immediate and proper disposal <br />of dead birds. <br />C. City of Louisville Code Enforcement officers or their designees shall <br />have the right to inspect the chicken coop, fenced run area, and any <br />property upon which chickens are kept when investigating complaints <br />or compliance with this chapter. <br />D. The keeping of any chicken hens in the city not in strict compliance <br />with this chapter is declared to be a menace to the health and safety of <br />the residents of the city and is hereby declared to be a nuisance and, <br />in addition to any other remedies, may be abated pursuant to chapter <br />8.20 of this Code. <br />E. If the property upon which the keeping of backyard chickens is <br />proposed is within the jurisdiction of a homeowner's association or <br />similar covenant -based property owner's association, the requirements <br />of this chapter shall be considered minimum requirements. Any such <br />association shall have the right to lawfully adopt more stringent <br />chicken - keeping standards, including the outright prohibition of <br />chickens for any property within the authority of such association. <br />Ordinance No. 1644, Series 2013 <br />Page 4 of 6 <br />
