8. From dusk until dawn, chickens shall be protected from predators by being enclosed within a secured chicken coop. 9. The maximum chicken coop size shall be 120 square feet and subject to the following requirements: a. A minimum of four (4) square feet of space per chicken shall be provided in both the coop and fenced run area. b. The maximum height of a coop shall be no more than six (6) feet at the highest point of the roof. 10.Outdoor slaughtering of birds is allowed, but shall be screened and not visible to adjoining properties. 11. Chicken feed shall be stored in re- sealable, airtight, predator and vermin -proof containers. 12.Odors associated with the chicken coop shall be contained within the owner's property boundaries. 13. Owners shall be responsible for the immediate and proper disposal of dead birds. C. City of Louisville Code Enforcement officers or their designees shall have the right to inspect the chicken coop, fenced run area, and any property upon which chickens are kept when investigating complaints or compliance with this chapter. D. The keeping of any chicken hens in the city not in strict compliance with this chapter is declared to be a menace to the health and safety of the residents of the city and is hereby declared to be a nuisance and, in addition to any other remedies, may be abated pursuant to chapter 8.20 of this Code. E. If the property upon which the keeping of backyard chickens is proposed is within the jurisdiction of a homeowner's association or similar covenant -based property owner's association, the requirements of this chapter shall be considered minimum requirements. Any such association shall have the right to lawfully adopt more stringent chicken - keeping standards, including the outright prohibition of chickens for any property within the authority of such association.
