Horticulture & Forestry
Advisory Board
Minutes
Thursday, October 3, 2013
Library Meeting Room
951 Spruce Street
7:00
PM
I.Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
II.Roll call—Board members present: Shelly Alm, Mike Frontczak, Neal
Griggsmiller, Erik Gustafson, Theresa Rounds, Ellen Toon. Board members
absent: Mark Newland, Beverlee White. Staff member present: Chris Lichty. City
Council member present: Susan Loo. Guest: Gina Lopez.
III.The agenda was approved by all members.
IV.The minutes from the September 5, 2013 meeting were approved.
V.Public Comment on Items not on the Agenda—Cancellation of fundraiser for
Arboretum; changes for next year to be discussed on a future date. Chris
commented on arrival of emerald ash borer in Boulder: In eastern U.S., borer has
virtually wiped out millions of ash trees. It is unclear how the infestation will
progress along the Front Range, given the generally drier conditions and physical
distance between stands of trees. There are chemical treatments that offer some
temporary protection, but there are no ‘cures.’ Boulder County will be under
quarantine, and federal and state agencies will be involved.
VI.Flood 2013, Impacts to Louisville—Most of the effects in Louisville were due to
the tremendous amount of rain which fell in Coal Creek Canyon on September 12,
affecting the entire Coal Creek drainage through Boulder County. The golf course
and many parts of the Coal Creek regional trail were badly damaged.
