Library Board of Trustees <br />Meeting Minutes DRAFT <br />September 12, 2013 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br />VII.New Business <br /> <br />A.Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB) Presentation on New Trails <br /> <br />Alison Gorsevski, OSAB Secretary, and Helen Moshak, OSAB Vice Chair, presented <br />information on the existing and proposed Louisville trails, which included trail types and <br />the many considerations that comprise the process related to site selection, <br />construction, and maintenance of trails. <br /> <br />The Board was asked in particular to consider whether there were any connectivity <br />issues related to the Library that should be considered. Alison <br />trails completed in the past five years and noted that all had b <br />collaborative brainstorming process. At the end of the formal presentation, Board <br />members spent several minutes reviewing maps and discussing ideas with OSAB <br />members. The presentation and discussion period lasted approximately 40 minutes. <br /> <br />B.Collection Policy Changes: <br /> <br />1)Withdrawal of Materials <br /> <br />Withdrawals in connection with the recent inventory raised the issue that <br />additional wording should be added to the policy. New wording illustrates the <br />conditions under which materials are withdrawn, their disposition, and how these <br />decisions relate to the entire process of collection development. The Board <br />agreed unanimously to the changes proposed by Beth Barrett, which will be <br />effective September 12, 2013. <br /> <br />2)Electronic Access ivision <br /> <br />Existing policy language did not specifically address games or other web content <br />in the Childrens area that depict realistic violence or suggestive themes. Beth <br />Barrett presented new language that illustrates the types of gam <br /> Library. The <br />Board unanimously approved the suggested changes. <br /> <br />st <br />C.Possible Program on Privacy in the 21 Century <br /> <br />Beth noted that the American Library Association (ALA) has asked libraries to consider <br />offering a public forum to talk about the idea of privacy, particularly in light of recent <br />revelations about government surveillance. The ALA website has a <br />this topic (http://www.ala.org/advocacy/privacyconfidentiality), which includes civic <br />engagement materials and a privacy toolkit. Beth asked the Board if this is an area <br />worth pursuing with respect to advocacy initiatives in the comin Several <br />members noted that privacy i <br />that it is especially important to teach children about privacy <br />members noted that this could be a series of programs and would likely take a while to <br />put together. Further investigation and discussion will be necessary. <br /> <br />D.Mountain Film Project (Jeannie Schuman) <br /> <br />Another community-related project for the Board could be the Mountain Film series <br />is currently seen in Telluride. Mountain Film goes to communitieworld and <br />presents documentaries on a variety of topics. Currently, Mountaoes not have a <br />presence on the Front Range. The cost is $2500 for two hours. Locating a venue is <br />another component that needs to be considered, and Jeannie talked to Jeff Suffolk <br />from Human Movement <br />
