Sections 6.12.100, 6.12.110, and 6.12.120 of <br />the Louisville Municipal Code are repealed and reenacted, with <br />amendments, and a new Section 6.12.130 is added, to read: <br /> <br />6.12.100 Impoundment -- Authority. <br /> <br />A. Any animal, including any dog, which is found <br />running at large in violation of Section 6.12.010, <br />which is creating a public nuisance in violation of <br />this title, and any dog which does not have <br />attached to its collar a tag showing the dog is <br />licensed for the current year, may be taken up by <br />the animal control officer who may cause the animal <br />to be impounded in a suitable place designated by <br />resolution of the city council. When the ownership <br />of such animal is known to the animal control <br />officer, the animal need not be impounded, but such <br />officer may cite the owner(s) of such animal to <br />appear in court to answer charges of the violation <br />of this title. <br /> <br />B. Any animal killed in any public street or on any <br />public property shall be deemed to have been <br />running at large and shall be removed therefrom and <br />disposed of by the owner, if known, or if the owner <br />is not known, by the animal control officer. <br /> <br />C. Any animal which is injured on or along a public <br />street or other public right-of-way shall be taken <br />to a veterinarian for medical treatment, pending <br />notification of the animal's owner, and may be <br />impounded by the animal control officer. The owner <br />of such animal shall be liable for and shall pay <br />all reasonable expenses of such treatment and <br />impoundment. Any such animal shall be deemed to <br />have been running at large. <br /> <br />D. The owner of the animal, if known, or the owner of <br />the property if the owner of the animal is not <br />known, shall remove and dispose of any dead animal <br />on private property. <br /> <br />section 6.12.110 <br /> <br />Notice to owner of impoundment. <br /> <br />A. Upon impounding an animal pursuant to this title, <br />the animal control officer shall post a notice at <br />city hall and the place of impoundment containing a <br />description of the animal being held. If the owner <br />of the animal is known, the notice shall instead be <br />provided by telephone or be mailed to or served on <br /> <br />4 <br />
