Sec. 5.12.130. Abandoning contract or departing from specifications prohibited. <br /> Sec. 5.12.140. Suspension and revocation. <br /> Sec. 5.12.150. Violation; penalty. <br /> Sec. 5.12.010. Licenses or registration required. <br /> A. Licenses shall be required for all types of work described in this chapter. The city requires <br /> all contractors involved in the construction, alteration, remodeling, repairing or equipping of <br /> buildings or other structures; or performing work in the installation of underground utilities <br /> or construction of roads and streets in the city, or performing work on any city-owned water, <br /> sewer and storm drainage facilities, to be licensed as a contractor. <br /> B. Exception: Public utility companies will not be required to obtain licenses when engaged in <br /> the installation, operation, and maintenance of their equipment used for the production, <br /> generation, or distribution of the utility, product, or service through the facilities owned or <br /> operated by the utility company to the point of customer service. <br /> C. Contractor defined: For purposes of this chapter, "contractor" means a person, corporation, <br /> limited liability company, partnership, association or other organization or entity of any <br /> type, or any combination thereof, who, by themselves or by or through others, and for a <br /> fixed fee, sum, price, percentage, bonus or compensation of any kind other than actual <br /> wages paid by a licensed contractor authorized to perform the work involved, undertakes or <br /> offers to undertake or purports to have the capacity to undertake any work described under <br /> Section 15.17.070, classification of licenses and registration. Homeowners residing on-site <br /> and doing work on their personal, primary residence are not considered contractors and are <br /> not required to obtain a contractor license. <br /> Sec. 5.12.020. Application and fee. <br /> A. Every applicant for a license shall fill out a form provided by the city and shall pay the <br /> appropriate fee for each type of license at the time of issuance. <br /> B. The building official shall review applications and notify the applicant of the action taken on <br /> the license application. If the license is disapproved, the applicant may appeal to the board <br /> of appeals as set forth in Chapter 15.56 of this Code. <br /> C. The annual license fees to be paid for the licenses and registrations required by and <br /> enumerated in this chapter shall be as established by resolution of the city council. <br /> D. The City does not require proof of insurance. By signing the contractor's license <br /> application, the applicant is stating that they will maintain general liability insurance as will <br /> the subcontractors they hire. <br /> Ordinance 1653, Series 2013 <br /> Page 2 of 8 <br />
