Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Nlinutes
December 16, 2013
None heard
Pre - filing Conference - none
Public Hearing — Landmark, 740 Front Street, Old Louisville Inn
Robinson presented from a PowerPoint presentation. He gave the historic background
of the property and the structure.
Stewart asked the applicant to present.
Steve Sims, a representative of the owners group, gave a presentation. He gave more
historic background, details on their proposal, and the future use of the structure. Their
primary intent is to preserve, renovate and add onto the building. He gave the following
detail of their proposed improvements:
• Restore front windows
• Repair siding and bricks
• Doors and windows
• Floors and ceilings throughout
• Structural integrity of the foundation
• Install fire sprinklers
• Primary focus is to design new, code compliant restrooms in the new addition
• Addition will complement the existing historic structure
Sims inquired about the in -kind requirements and whether an agreement can be created
to guarantee funding if they decide to landmark.
John Gstalder, another partner and applicant, stated he believes this project will not
only provide an addition for more space but it will accentuate the existing structure and
provide additional shoring. He emphasized that time is of the essence to try and open
up before the summer crowds come to town. He added he would like to understand the
timing and process involved in grant funding requests. He stated they are grateful for
the opportunity and for the City having this program.
Stewart complimented them on their project and restated the request tonight is for the
landmarking of this building, based on the surveys and evaluations provided tonight. He
added the HPC can make a determination as to whether the proposal qualifies as a
landmark, table this item, then have come back later with a package including a grant
application.
Robinson agreed with that process. He added the package could then be taken to City
Council at a later date.
Watson asked what kind of grant money, or in -kind aid, is requested by this applicant.
