537 W. Fir Way
Louisville, CO 80027
November 14, 2013
City of Louisville
749 Main St.
Louisville, CO 80027
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express my sincere interest in joining a City of Louisville board or commission. Since moving back
to Colorado from New York last year(after having grown up here), I have been eager to increase my involvement
in the community. Now that my family has settled in Louisville, participating on a city board or commission is an
ideal way for me to not only contribute my time to a good cause, but also have a positive impact on the city in
which I have chosen to live and raise a family.
As indicated on my application,I am particularly interested in the vacancies on the Planning Commission,
Revitalization Commission and the Board of Adjustment. I believe I would be a valuable member of any of these
three groups given my written and oral communication skills, detail-oriented and collaborative working style and
legal background. As a member of the Planning Commission or Revitalization Commission, I believe I could bring
a fresh and unique perspective to land use issues and proposals and work well with other commission members to
present sound, workable and sustainable recommendations to the City Council. In addition,I believe my familiarity
with legal procedures, rules and adjudicative proceedings would serve me well as a member of the Board of
Adjustment. The decisions made by these commissions are crucial to Louisville's continued success and
desirability as a place to live and work. For instance, the decision to develop Downtown Louisville into a haven for
independent restaurants, bars and shops has transformed Louisville into a culinary and entertainment destination for
residents and non-residents alike. Furthermore, the city's clear commitment to maintaining open spaces, trails and
parks has only increased the quality of life of its residents. These are the decisions I would like to be a part of, and
there are clearly many more to be made as Louisville continues to mature as a city and shift its focus to revitalizing
and re-developing already-developed land. While I lack specific experience with land use, revitalization and real
estate adjudication issues, I am not naïve about the complex and difficult questions that such issues can raise. That
said,I am a quick and eager learner and am confident that I can add value to any one of these commissions.
If I am not appointed to one of the three aforementioned commissions, I am also willing and excited to be a part of
several other commissions and boards, including the Building Code Board of Appeals, Sustainability Advisory
Board and the Cultural Council. I have wide-ranging interests and would be eager to tackle any role for which I am
deemed a good fit.
I am excited for the opportunity to take an active role in shaping Louisville's future. Given Louisville's enviable
location geographically—at the base of the Foothills—and economically—at the epicenter of Colorado's booming
tech industry—it is no wonder it is consistently recognized as an ideal place to live and work. I would like a chance
to contribute my time and energy to this city to help it continue to raise the bar for small-town excellence.
Enclosed please find a copy of my resume. I can be reached at 303-324-1946 or at darin.l.brown @gmail.coin
should you require additional information. Thank you for your consideration of my candidacy.
Sincerely,
Darin L.
