CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />GENDA ITEM II <br />A <br />SUBJECT: POLICE CHIEF RECRUITMENT DISCUSSION <br />DATE:JANUARY 17, 2014 <br />PRESENTED BY: KATHLEEN HIX, CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE, HUMAN <br />RESOURCES DEPARTMENT <br />SUMMARY: <br />Chief Bruce Goodman announced his plan to retire in March of 2014. Chief Goodman <br />has served as the Chief of Police for Louisville since September of 1993. During his <br />twenty plus years with the City, the Police Department has flourished under his <br />leadership. <br />As the City begins the process of hiring a new Police Chief, it is critical to gather <br />feedback from City Council, the community, police department staff, City staff, and other <br />community members regarding the qualities and characteristics they would like to see in <br />Louisville’s next Chief of Police. The Human Resources staff has scheduled various <br />focus groups to gather this input from the stakeholders. <br />Heather Bergman, President of Peak Facilitation Group has been hired as the facilitator <br />for the focus groups. <br />The City Council focus group meeting to discuss the qualities and characteristics they <br />would like to see in the next Chief of Police is scheduled for Friday, January 17 from <br />7:30 am – 8:30 am in the Spruce Room at City Hall. The attached questions will assist <br />in guiding the discussion.
