Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
January 13 2014
and replacement plan before our next meeting on 1/21/2014 so that the Board can
review and be prepared to support the recommendation from the City Forester and
the golf course architect.
Jeff Cordes of Landscapes Unlimited noted that core-sampling of greens is still
ongoing. Ideal USGA practice is to have 12” of 20% peat, 80% sand over a 4” layer
of pea rock over a “choker layer” of gravel. The current greens have 16” – 20” of
sand. The results of this core sampling will have a $280K effect on the cost of
green reconstruction depending if the whole 16” – 20” of sub-soil needs to be
replaced or if it is adequate to correct the top 2” by tilling in nutrients prior to
seeding.
Hole-by-hole analysis. In general, the Board agreed with the plans. Specific
questions are:
Hole #1: does the proposed change to the bunker and cart path provide
o
adequate value?
Hole #3: Although not part of the reconstruction it should be done concurrently
o
with the reconstruction work. The GCAB agrees that this issue should be
funded from another source but should be addressed while the golf course is
rdthth
under construction so we don’t have to reenter the 3 hole, 15 hole and 11
hole with heavy equipment if needed. Joe Stevens said that Kurt Kower,
Director of Public Works was working on it and Chairman Gambon asked Joe
to get a date from Public Works (Kurt Kower) on when they will have their
analysis done on possible solutions, costs and recommendations. City needs
to come up with a solution to the run-off problem affecting the adjacent homes.
This is a matter for the City Engineer and funding needs to be found. Joe
stated that the flooding solution would be a City and HOA joint venture with the
funding to be resolved between the City and the citizens of the affected areas
and not the GCAB. Our concern is that it be addressed during the
reconstruction of the golf course so we do not incur unnecessary additional
costs and disrupt golf operations after the new irrigation system is installed
and other repairs are completed.
City Staff will provide such information as exists on latent mine shafts. C.
o
Capps spoke about some of the issues with what is believed to be mine shafts
th
below the 5 hole that have affected the irrigation system and drainage issues.
He said that there are known issues on Hole #3 and Hole #5. The covered
shaft west of the gold tee box on Hole #5 could be developed as a feature.
Hole #4: will the proposed re-routing of the cart-path face objections from the
o
adjacent homeowners and does it provide adequate value?
Hole # 8:water fountain recommendation from the architect may be
o
something that is on the list for value engineering unless water quality is the
issue being resolved.
Hole #9: The present bunker at 200 yds from the green should be retained
o
and incorporated into the proposed mounding.
Hole#10Flooding at the intersection of the cart path to 10th tee and under
:
o
Dillon Rd. needs to be addressed. Previously there was no provision for flow
into the creek leading to standing water on the path.
Hole #15: Drainage issues into several homes along the left side of the rough
o
coming off the golf course needs to be addressed. This is an annual
occurrence each spring
4
