Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
January 13 2014
Hole #17: Architect to investigate changes to the left hand side of the green
o
to protect against balls rolling into the creek
Hole #18: move cart-path further to the left than proposed in the current plan
o
to minimize ricochets into the woods and to open up more space for a
expanded landing area.
Restroom on back 9. Ideal positioning is beside the gold tees for #15. This
o
requires a longer utilities run than considered in the cost estimate. Need to
review
Practice Facility: the Board agrees with the plans to improve and extend the
o
driving range (significant revenue source) but has issues with the viability and
safety concerns of moving the chipping area and sand trap to the general area
of practice putting green. Architect to review options provide recommendations
for Board consideration at next meeting 1/21/2014.
IX Schedule and Decision Points
th
The critical schedule is getting the plan presented to City Council for approval at the Feb 4
meeting. A detailed GANTT chart will be developed from the final agreed construction plan.
Item X Progress on WGP Termination
This discussion was held over for future meetings.
Item XI Golf Course Business Plan and Budget
The Board appointed Lisa Norgard and Heikke Nielson as a sub-Committee to work with
City Staff on preparing a business plan. A straw-man proposal is included in the package
th
for the Jan 14 Council Budget Study Session. This will need significant detailing for both
the construction budget and the operational budget before it becomes a viable plan. City
HR and Finance Staff are already doing preliminary work on the components.
Joe Stevens noted that the City needs to decide whether to manage the Food and
Beverage function directly or to our-source. Much of the existing catering equipment is
beyond its useful/reliable life and will need to be replaced as part of the start-up budget.
Item XII Meeting with Boulder Country Club
Lisa Norgard and Dennis Maloney gave a summary of their in-depth meeting with the Golf
Director and Golf Superintendent of Boulder Country Club. Key points are:
BCC have a fully-detailed maintenance plan covering watering, mowing, fertilization
etc. This plan is updated regularly and such a plan is a necessity for Coal Creek as it
re-opens
BCC strongly recommend that Coal Creek hires a Golf Superintendent as early as
appropriate in the reconstruction cycle so that he/she can be fully apprised of the
new design and is ready to take ownership of the new course. Such an appointment
will relieve City Staff of some of the project management duties. BCC said there was
a pool of qualified candidates available.
BCC stops scheduled watering in June of each year with no ill-effects on the course
5
