City Council
Meeting Minutes
March 4, 2014
impacted his business negatively. He did not feel the food trucks and movie nights
drew people from outside Louisville, but did negatively impact his business.
Andy Johnson, 920 Lincoln Avenue, Louisville, CO an 11-year resident stated his family
feels positively impacted by the special events. As the applicant of the Sonic Boom
race team permit, he reported Lucky Pie is a sponsor, but not the only one. The race
brings folks into town and he observed positive impacts to the new brew pub, Twelve
Degree.
Todd Stevenson, 224 Roosevelt Avenue, Louisville, CO was inspired to move to
Louisville and to promote special events. He urged Council to include event promoters
who are familiar with putting on events in the process of determining the special events
application. He supported the event coordinators dealing with the concerns and not
putting the entire burden on City staff. He did not want a moratorium on events.
Patrick Walsh, Owner, Bittersweet Café and Flatirons Coffee Roasters, 1201 Main
Street, Louisville, CO, experiences some of the same things Mr. Blanchard reported. In
spite of it, he felt it was important to look beyond a day-long event and focus on the
positive impact on the City. He encouraged business owners to get involved in the
events. He did not want to see the process become more difficult.
Jeff Suffolk, Owner of Human Movement, 1111 South Street, Louisville, CO reported
doing his first event in Louisville in 2004 and a decade later his company has grown
substantially and has 140 employees. He said other cities beg them to do events in
their towns. He felt the process had not evolved in Louisville and he has given up on
doing events in Louisville. As for Movies in the Park, he previously purchased an
inflatable background screen for home use and was given the wrong size. It was a full
drive-in movie size, which he proposed to provide movies in the park. Similar events
have also become popular in other communities.
Doug Grinbergs, 530 W. Sycamore Circle, Louisville, CO voiced his appreciation and
pride for all the events in town. He felt it has been easy for residents to bike to these
events. He stated the Street Faire causes a huge parking problem and noted the pedi-
cabs didn't work. He felt there was a need for shuttle buses and additional bicycle racks
and noted it is hazardous to park too close to the train tracks. He thought the movies in
the park start too late because of the late sunset. He suggested using the golf course
for running events.
Michael Menaker, 1827 W. Chokecherry Drive, Louisville, CO a 26-year resident stated
happy people rarely come to Council meetings to say thank you. In contrast, the events
draw thousands of folks and he asked Council to consider the attendees to the events in
their decision. He recognized the good and bad impact of the Street Faire and
remembered a time when the downtown area was deserted. He suggested event
planners at Community Park encourage attendees to visit the downtown restaurants.
