Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
February 10, 2014
Maxfield stated there are only two original windows so the style of the double hung windows is
correct to the period.
Watson asked if the proportions of the sashes are correct.
Feaster stated the sashes will be the same.
Watson asked if the porch was going be functional or run into any setback issues.
Feaster stated the porch would be functional and would comply with setbacks.
Public Comments
None heard.
Commission Questions and Comments
Stewart stated the primary question is whether the front porch, dormer and windows are
character defining and whether they meet the standards required for future landmarking. He
stated he agrees with staff the social history is not particularly strong. He stated the siding and
the porch columns have been altered, while the windows are being proposed in the same
historical location.
Fasick stated the number of Italian families, including the Dalpiso family who owned this
structure for quite some time and believes that is an interesting social aspect of this property.
Haley stated the original form has been retained and believes it could be eligible for
landmarking. She asked the owners if they would be interested in landmarking the structure.
Maxfield stated she is not interested in keeping the structure in the original form because it is
too small and she would like a new porch.
Watson agreed there would be no other areas to expand the house based on its current
location and the layout of the property.
Feaster stated the previous owners dug out the basement which structurally impacted the
house. He stated the owners are wishing to provide the necessary steps to improving this
house.
Maxfield states she believes there are other houses in the area which would better deserve
landmarking.
Haley stated she agreed.
Watson stated there is a way to extend the roof to maintain the gable form.
Feaster stated the house would then have to be structurally improved.
