Committee Member 4: Coal Creek Golf Course
The golf course adds to Louisville's economy and culture in a number of ways.
- it attracts people from the surrounding areas, bringing sales tax dollars to Louisville. It also helps keep golf
course spending of Louisville residents at home.
- It increases property values near the course, both in term of the premium paid for a view lot as well as the
higher level of structure that a golf course warrants. Both add significant property tax dollars to Louisville
- most of the land can't be developed for a "higher" use because of the floodplain. Open space would be a
iternative.
- the course adds many qualities of an open space while actually bringing revenue rather than simply creating
more expense. These qualities include aesthetic benefit, _. in the trees, greenery, and open areas, as well as
significant wildlife habitat, especially hawks and coyotes.
- having a golf course adds an intangible level of cachet to a community. Coal Creek's unique style with the
creek, hills, and trees, along with its relatively reasonable cost, sets it apart from courses like the Broadlands
and Interlochen.
- the course provides a practice facility for local high schools and a place to hold meets
- non - golfers can get significant use from the course through x- country skiing, walking trails, sledding, and
wildlife viewing. This actually provides more use than allowed in most open spaces, while covering the costs
through revenue production.
- the course has significant potential for unique events like cross country meets.
©2014, Golf Convergence, Inc.
19
