L <br />Cityo CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />Louisville AGENDA ITEM 11 <br />"�� czar• vq-01'l't lt+i* <br />SUBJECT: <br />DATE: <br />ANNUAL REPORT — LOUISVILLE CULTURAL COUNCIL <br />MAY 13, 2014 <br />PRESENTED BY: SUSAN HONSTEIN, CHAIRPERSON OF THE LOUISVILLE <br />CULTURAL COUNCIL <br />LIST HIGHLIGHTS AND SUCCESSES OF THE PAST YEAR: <br />Art advocacy and cultural programming. <br />WHAT WORKED WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />Formalization of the booking process for Resident Arts Organizations utilizing the <br />Louisville Center for the Arts; working with City Council to update City support for the <br />arts in Louisville; successful execution of 25 community programs /events; application <br />and award of $1,500 in SCFD grant monies; and the successful campaigning for a full - <br />time arts administrator added to City staff. <br />WHAT DID NOT WORK WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />N/A <br />LIST PLANS /GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR: <br />Adoption of acquisition policies prior to the purchase of additional artwork for the <br />completion of Phase I at the Community Park sculpture garden; evaluation /realignment <br />of administrative duties associated with LCC activities; improve marketing efforts; <br />increase in volunteer recruitment; and document the history of the LCC. <br />IN WHAT AREAS DO YOU NEED CITY COUNCIL INPUT /FEEDBACK? <br />The LCC encourages feedback on the effectiveness of LCC role in providing arts and <br />cultural programming and serving in an advisory role to the Council. Additionally, <br />support /direction for new community offerings is encouraged. <br />KNOWING THAT FUNDING IS LIMITED AND NOT ALL PROGRAMS WILL BE A <br />PRIORITY IN ANY GIVEN BUDGET YEAR, WHAT PROJECTS/ PROGRAMS/ <br />POSITIONS ETC. DOES THIS BOARD RECOMMEND THE CITY COUNCIL FUND IN <br />NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET? <br />There is presently $60,000 in the City's Capital Plan scheduled for distribution in 2016. <br />The Cultural Council is in support of the City's recommendation (in the upcoming City <br />Capital Project Five -Year Plan) for these funds to be divided over 2015 and 2016. <br />Additionally, the LCC supports a sculpture conservation budget and updates to the <br />Center of the Arts. The Cultural Council recommends the continuation of City Councils <br />support in offering arts, cultural and scientific programming to Louisville residents. <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />2 <br />
