Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
May 5 2014

Mr. Keegan pointed out that using comp rounds of golf for
o
course employees could result in a liability for the council from
non-reporting of earnings
Mr. Keegan suggested that the practice of allowing loyalty club
o
members to book 14 days in advance should be modified so
that early bookings generate maximum revenue from the public
paying full rack rate
Chairman Gambon congratulated Chris Bradford for keeping the
o
golf course in good shape but noted that Western Golf had
severely limited the resources Chris was allowed to deploy. Mr
Keegan’s chart showed that Coal Creek spent 27% on golf
course maintenance (manpower + expense) compared to 40%
for the bottom 25% of courses and 45% for the “Silver” courses
that we are trying to emulate.
There were several discussions on the competition and what
o
offerings and rates they have been charging this season.
Chairman Gambon referenced Riverdale Dunes and Knolls
punched card pricing and resident versus non-resident rates as
an example where our costs seemed out of line. Additionally he
stated that more than 50% of golfers at Coal Creek walk and
raising the rates to $19 or $20 per person per cart would be a
disincentive to rent carts.
It was the Board view that additional competitive analysis should
o
be done and reviewed with the Board so that we can further
understand Coal Creek golf course offerings that Mr. Keegan
and City staff are proposing including golf cart rental rates,
punched cards,
7 Special Meeting
Kevin Norby will attend an open house, on Friday, May 16, 2015 at 5:00
PM, at the clubhouse so project status and specific questions can be
addressed relative to cart paths (realignment), tree planting and course
playability when the course re-open in 2015.
Joe Stevens was asked by Chairman Gambon if he could arrange for a
tour of the golf course the afternoon of 5/16 a few hours prior to the
community meeting for any GCAB members who can be available. Joe
agreed to schedule and advise.

··
Parks and Recreation Department 749 Main Street Louisville, CO 80027
·
(303) 335-4735 FAX (303) 335-4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
Parks Recreation Senior Services O
Golf
