Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
May 5 2014

6 Presentation by Jim Keegan
The majority of the slides presented by Mr. Keegan can be seen on the City
Website:
http://www.louisvilleco.gov/Portals/0/Boards%20&%20Commissions/Current%20Ag
endas%20Packets/currentgolfcoursepacket.pdf
However Mr. Keegan presented some charts which were not in the publicly
posted packet including many financial charts and a chart outlining his and
staff’s view of the role of the GCAB. Chairman Gambon requested that Mr.
Keegan and / or Joe Stevens provide the GCAB Board members all the
charts that Mr. Keegan presented.
Discussion of the slides took place as follows:
Mr. Keegan distilled the inputs from all board members into the
following Vision Statement and the Board approved this for
presentation to City Council
Celebrating
o mining history, Coal
Creek Golf Course encircles
a nature preserve with stunning vistas to the quality of life for a
community featuring diverse aorecreational interests centered
on an exciting experience to individuals of varied ability on a
foundation that is self- sustaining.
Historically Coal Creek Golf Course generated an annual revenue of
$1.7M which compares very favorably with the $1.2M for the average
municipal course
The average revenue per round is $28.80 which equates to 60% of the
rack rate
Most factors are favorable to the success of the course: for example,
the slope rating of 135 which is in the top 15% in terms of municipal
course difficulty. A selection of tees will allow the course to be
pleasurable for golfers of all abilities. The only challenge is being able
to generate a sufficient number of revenue rounds.
We should maximize the use of technology. Airline websites were
quoted as examples of good access – the first page of the site takes
you directly to reservations. The new City website will include a Golf
course website hopefully using this principle as a guideline. The Board
asked staff for a link to a website created by the selected contractor so
we could see how this can be implemented

··
Parks and Recreation Department 749 Main Street Louisville, CO 80027
·
(303) 335-4735 FAX (303) 335-4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
Parks Recreation Senior Services O
Golf
