Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Nlinutes
June 16, 2014
Discussion — Outreach information packet
Watson stated the main points are to find out how we can further assist individuals.
Stewart asked what that would look like, is it a glossy handout, a notebook, single page?
La Grave asked for Trice to look at outreach options and give us some feedback at the next
meeting.
The HPC thought that was a great idea.
Committee Reports — none
Update on Demolition Requests - 816 Main, 504 Spruce, 906 Main
Robinson stated nothing has changed for 816 Main, Empire Sign.
Stewart asked if the rumors were true about the tenant looking to purchase the building.
Robinson said that is what he has heard. He added if he is able to purchase the
building he may pursue landmarking the sign. He added the original application is on
hold.
La Grave stated he would like to see the application on the next agenda to discuss as to
whether this application is valid or not. He believes if there was no signature the
application should not be considered valid.
Stewart agrees and believes the clock should not begin until the property owner signs
the application.
Robinson stated the direction we received from the City Attorney was to wait for the
property owner to sign the application.
La Grave stated this should only take a few days, not months.
Stewart stated he didn't mind if it didn't take months, as long as the clock did not begin
ticking until the application is signed.
Watson stated he agreed with La Grave but believes the City Attorney should be
consulted with again.
La Grave believes another month to allow for the application to be signed is more than
enough time.
Fahey asked if the HPC could establish, in our bylaws, to require an owner's signature.
Watson stated he believes this should be done by ordinance and not bylaws.
