Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
April; 10, 2014
Page 10of 37
Moline says in line with the same questioning Rice had, he hasn’t been out to the CTC
to look at signs. Would you describe this proposal as consistent with whatever else is
going on out there?
Robinson says yes, he would say it is fairly consistent. The main monument sign
complies with the standards. Some other projects have been approved with larger
directional signs, and the third sign is in lieu of the wall sign. It fits in with the overall
development.
Applicant Presentation:
Jim Baldwin, CEO of Community Food Share, 650 South Taylor. We have been in the
building since August 2013 and been operating without signage which was difficult
because of the flood in September. Fortunately, we were in our larger facility and we
were able to respond to the need in the community, but it was challenging giving
directions not knowing the address on the building. We are ready to put appropriate
signage on the property. Obviously, the main monument sign identifies the property with
no issues there. The directional signage is critical for us to be able to direct nonprofit
agencies that are coming to pick up food from us as well as deliveries of large quantities
of food being delivered to our facility. The last monument sign that could have been a
wall sign is being dedicated to the donor that donated $2.5 million to the purchase of the
building. We thought it would be more than appropriate to provide a nice monument
sign dedicating that building.
Commission Questions of Applicant:
None.
Additional Questions of Staff:
None.
Public Comment:
None.
Closed Public Hearing and discussion by Commission:
Russell has no comments and supports it.
Rice says his comments were implicit in his comments and wanted to understand how
the process works. It seems to him that this is being done in accord with the way things
ought to be done when an applicant wants to put up more than one sign. He thinks the
signs are quite attractive. He supports the proposal.
O’Connell has no comment.
Tengler has no comment.
Brauneis has no comment.
Moline has no comment.
