L <br />City at <br />- <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO • SINCE 1878 <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />AGENDA ITEM 11 <br />SUBJECT: ANNUAL REPORT — GOLF COURSE ADVISORY BOARD <br />DATE: AUGUST 26, 2014 <br />PRESENTED BY: <br />• GCAB MEMBERS <br />o KEN GAMBON, CHAIRMAN <br />o LISA NORGARD, VICE -CHAIR <br />o SANDY STEWART, SECRETARY <br />o TOM DEANY <br />o PERRY NELSON <br />o DENNIS MALONEY <br />o HEIKKE NIELSEN <br />LIST HIGHLIGHTS AND SUCCESSES OF THE PAST YEAR: <br />• Provided input on best use of 2013 budget: Phase 1 of bunker repair and tree <br />maintenance. <br />• Created and updated hole -by -hole analysis of course condition to show progress. <br />• Participated in the selection evaluation process of Landscapes Unlimited as the <br />prime contractor for golf course restoration. <br />• Reviewed and made recommendations on hole -by -hole design for restoration. <br />• Reviewed and prioritized initial costing for renovation. <br />• Generated community support for the golf course with programs like "Divots & <br />Dining" resonated well with citizen non - golfers as well. Additional opportunities <br />will be pursued as the course construction completes and grow -in continues. <br />• Facilitated discussion and plans for "common sense" improvement to home <br />flooding issues around golf course. <br />• Participated in the candidate interviews for the future golf course superintendent. <br />• Significant detailed work by City staff in attempting to maximizing FEMA and <br />State funding for restoration. <br />WHAT WORKED WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />• Good interaction and participation of GCAB members. <br />• Communication of status of the renovation to golfers and adjacent HOAs. <br />• Support from Council on critical areas of concern or conflict. <br />WHAT DID NOT WORK WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />• Destruction of the golf course by the September 12, 2013 flooding. <br />• Staff perception that we are getting too involved in details. <br />• Reluctance by staff to share detailed data and involve GCAB on key decisions. <br />• City staff consultant input from J. Keegan: little relevant content and gratuitous <br />criticism in a public forum of the GCAB members and inappropriate comments <br />about the community and surrounding homeowners. <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />7 <br />
