Commissioner McDermott asked for more information about the pole materials. Mr. Thompson
stated that the two types of finish that they would use, one would be a galvanized steel pole and
they would use a dark gray paint over that. When there is paint over the galvanized pole there is
not a rust problem. The other one is a weathering steel.

Commissioner Kalish asked for clarification as to all of this will work. Mr. Thompson stated that
the voltage will remain the same on the circuits. 115,000 volts, will not change. What is being
done due to the construction that has been done underlying to change the grade, they cannot
utilize the full amperage of the conductor that is up at this time. That is one of the reasons they
are rebuilding the line, putting a larger conductor on there so that they can increase the amperage
looking towards the future 30 years down the road. The larger conductor will have the larger
current carrying capacity than what the existing conductor has.

Members of the Public:

James Marvin Commander, 1556 Washington Avenue. Mr. Commander stated that he is not
directly affected by this line. This line puts a slash right through the neighborhood. Mr.
Commander feels that the EMF is an issue. Mr. Commander would like to see this put
underground and asked what they will do when they reach the full capacity of the new lines.

Tom Hurt, 736 Club Circle. Mr. Hurt asked with the power lines being installed with 115,000
volts, at a later date will they be able to increase power in that to as much as 350,000 volts. Mr.
Hurt also asked what safety standards have been set for this project.

Fred Backes, 793 W. Tamarisk Street. Mr. Backes asked how popular underground is becoming.
Are we to look at it as something of a future technology and even though it costs more, should
we be considering such an approach? Is there such a line with the poles and amount of current
flowing through them existing so that people could go and get some idea of what they are going
to be experiencing first hand? Noise-wise as well as visually. Mr. Backes also asked if there has
th
been consideration of re-routing away from this area, such as following McCaslin down to 36
th
and then taking 36 down to Broomfield rather than going through the neighborhoods. What
would the cost differential be if it were re-routed?

Jack Shiker, 1150 Grove Court. Mr. Shiker is representing himself as well as the Homeowners
Association for the Grove at Harper Lake. Mr. Shiker submitted some pictures for the record as
well as a list of their questions. There are some power poles that are located in their open space
and they wonder if the homeowners association will be given the choice of where that pole is
located. They would prefer that it not be set in the middle of the open space if they realign the
distance of the poles. Mr. Shiker also asked if the City will be overseeing Public Service to ensure
that open space is returned to the original condition. The pictures that Mr. Shiker submitted
th
show the metal power poles that they are proposing to go to along Lookout Road and 75
Avenue in Boulder. He pointed out that the poles are highly stained and rusted. He asked what
would ensure that they stay in good condition. Will Public Service contact the homeowners

6
