Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
NOVEMBER 10, 2005

Public Notice Certification:
Published in the Daily Camera on October 23, 2005. Posted in City Hall, the Louisville
Public Library, the Recreation Center and the Courts and Police Department Building and
mailed to the surrounding property owners on October 21, 2005. The agenda was posted
on the City’s web site and at City Hall, the Louisville Public Library, the Recreation
Center and the Courts and Police Department Building on November 4, 2005.
Conflict of Interest and Disclosure: None reported.
Staff Report of Facts and Issues:
Johnstone provided the following summary:

Carrabba’s is an existing business that opened in early 2000.

The request is for additional sign text on each of the three existing wall signs to
add the text “lunch-dinner” in 12-inch tall white letters.

The request requires consideration as an amended final PUD because it does not
fully comply with CDDSG sign regulations. City sign regulations limit all
commercial signs to the text as contained in a businesses registered name and
trademark. The proposed text is not part of Carrabba’s registered name and
trademark, therefore the request is for relief from that requirement through the
PUD process.

The applicant has explained in their application letter that they believe they need
this additional signage because many Carrabba’s serve dinner only. They want
potential customers to be aware that this location also serves lunch.

The signs comply with other CDDSG requirements pertaining to illumination,
sign area, letter heights, etc.

Staff supports the request and Resolution No. 23 recommends approval with one
minor administrative condition:

1)The plans shall be revised to correct the sign area calculation, as
discussed in the Planning Commission staff report and a set of PUD plan
sheets shall be prepared subsequent to City Council approval, subject to
staff review and approval.
Commission Questions of Staff:
Deborski requested a clarification of the difference in the square footage calculations.
Johnstone reviewed the difference: one rectangle vs. two rectangles. The City uses the
one rectangle while the applicant used two rectangles.
Applicant Presentation:
Rich Bellefeuille, Young Electric Sign Co., representing the owner reviewed the reason
for the request.
Commission Questions of Applicant:
Loo requested a clarification of the relationship of Carrabba’s with JFRCO and Young
Electric Sign.
Bellefeuille stated that the JFRCO reference is incorrect. The only relationship is between
Carrabba’s and Young Electric Sign for this application.
McAvinew ask if Carrabba’s had a representative in the audience.
