BCHA is very excited about the Alkonis property as it will have many <br />rd <br />opportunities to serve the community. They hope to begin construction in the 3 <br />quarter of 2015. There will be a mix of demographics and incomes for Alkonis <br />and fair housing rules will apply. <br /> <br />Members of the public spoke of items they would like to include in senior <br />housing. <br /> <br />Deputy City Manager Heather Balser and Mayor Muckle thanked Mr. Alexander <br />and Ms. Williford for their service. <br /> <br />Update/Discussion Boulder Valley School District <br />Planning and Building Safety Director Troy Russ gave an overview of how <br />Louisville coordinates with The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) getting <br />feedback via Planning referrals. BVSD Senior Planner Glen Segrue gave an <br />overview of enrollment saying it declined after the 2001 area technology bust and <br />is now getting back to post-bust levels. Open enrollment is a preference, not <br />something that is guaranteed. However, once you are accepted into a school, <br />you will not have to leave that school. <br /> <br />Segrue discussed planned residential development and student yield. Yield at <br />Louisville Elementary School (LES) is 85%, meaning 15% enroll elsewhere. <br /> <br />There was a discussion of capacity. Near term solutions for capacity issues at <br />LES: <br /> Continued restriction on open enrollment <br /> Potential changes in programs offered such as preschool and relocating <br />the preschool <br /> Portable classrooms to temporarily increase capacity. <br /> <br />Long term solutions include: <br /> Permanent additions at LES <br /> Boundary changes <br /> <br /> <br />There was a discussion about boundary changes and re-districting. Assistant <br />Superintendent Orr said there is not enough growth to support a new facility. He <br />said boundary changes and school closings are things superintendents try to <br />avoid. The budget is built by projections. <br /> <br />The members of the public present commented on classroom size and open <br />enrollment. Mr. Orr said there has been no discussion of redistricting students <br />out of Louisville. He said LES has not exceeded capacity and that schools can <br />exceed designed capacity. <br /> <br />Russ commented that BVSD has given good responses to referrals. <br /> <br />
